Tax Relief – claim tax relief for your job expenses

Uniforms, work clothing and tools

You may be able to claim tax relief if you have job‑related expenses that you must pay for yourself. This includes the cost of repairing or replacing small tools needed for your role (such as scissors or hand tools), as well as cleaning, repairing or replacing specialist work clothing like uniforms or safety footwear.

If eligible, you can submit a claim to HMRC to receive tax relief on these expenses.

Using your own vehicle for work

If you use your personal vehicle for business travel, you may be able to claim tax relief on the approved mileage rate. To calculate your claim, you’ll need to keep records of your work journeys, total up the mileage for each type of vehicle used, and deduct any mileage payments your employer has already given you.

You can then claim tax relief from HMRC for the remaining eligible amount.

NL Active Collective Adult Membership Discount

All care sector workers who are employed by a regulated care provider in either a domiciliary or care home setting in North Lincolnshire are eligible for NL Active’s discounted NL Collective membership.

The NL Collective membership entitles the member to use any NL Active leisure centre and allows access to the following activities:

Unlimited use of the gyms
Casual and programmed pool sessions (excluding lessons)
Group fitness and virtual studio classes
Racket sports
Activity booking 7 days ahead

The usual price for this is £37.99 per month, however, with the discounted NL Collective membership, care workers will be able to access this for £29.99 per month.

NL Collective members are free to cancel their membership at any point, not having to serve a minimum period. To set up a NL Collective account, it will need to be completed at a NL Active leisure centre site with the care worker completing a Direct Debit Mandate, with payments to be taken monthly on the 1st of every month.

Photo identification, proof of address and evidence from your employer that you are employed within the care sector, along with a recent wage slip will also be required when setting up a membership and monthly Direct Debit.

Free Normanby Hall Annual Pass for Care Workers

In recognition of your continued hard work and dedication in enabling people to remain safe and well, we are delighted to once again offer care workers a complimentary annual Normanby Hall County Park pass.

This scheme is open from 1 August 2026 to 31 August 2026. North Lincolnshire Care Providers must register via the new Proud to Care Employers Hub to receive their unique code to share with their workforce.

Wheels 2 Work – Care Worker Scheme

Are you a Care Worker looking for support with transport? North Lincolnshire Council has purchased 20 new mopeds and 20 e-bicycles which make it easier for care workers to travel and deliver care across communities.

What is the Wheels 2 Work Care Worker Scheme?

If you work for a Regulated Care organisation within North Lincolnshire, you may be entitled to apply for an electric moped or bicycle to undertake your duties out in the community. Please check with your employer to see if they are part of the scheme.

Take advantage of our offers – You can now hire an Electric moped at a discounted monthly cost of £20 per month for the first 6 months. The scheme has also expanded to include electric bicycles at a discounted rate of £10 per month. After the initial 6 months, original rates will apply.

A fully equipped electric scooter makes it even easier to deliver care. The £99 start-up cost and Compulsory Basic Training are funded through Proud to Care.

Am I eligible for the scheme?

You must be 16 years or over.
If under 18, a parent or guardian must act as a guarantor.
You must live within the county of North Lincolnshire.
You must have a driving licence with the ‘AM’ category on and with your current address.
Firm offer of work with one of the nominated care companies that is supporting the scheme.
Already in work with one of the nominated care companies that is supporting the scheme.
You must be able to secure a scooter at home away from the public highway – this will be checked before a decision is taken.
If you are accepted onto the scheme, you will need to attend the Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) course before the handover. Your helmet and gloves will be collected directly from the trainer. Once you have been accepted, full details will be sent to you — and the scheme will cover the cost of the training.
You need to make sure you can afford the deposit and monthly payments; a deposit and the first month’s hire will need to be paid before the handover. Details will be sent to you.
The handover always takes place at our Depot and takes about an hour. Details will be sent to you with time and what to bring. The security chain and Hi-Viz waistcoat will be collected at this point.
