Carol, Care Worker – Hales Group

In 2019, Carol became Hales Scunthorpe’s first Gold Award winning carer and her hard work has been recognised in her local community where they awarded her outstanding efforts supporting vulnerable adults in the community. This is her story:

“Hello, my name is Carol and I have been working in home care for 16 years now.

“My mum passed away 16 years ago, she had Parkinson’s disease, she lived in Newcastle and as I live in Lincolnshire and do not drive I felt guilty all the time, when I couldn’t get up to see her as often as I would of liked.

“At the time I had another job but got made redundant at about the same time that my mum passed away, so I decided there and then I wanted to work in care. I felt that by caring for others in their own homes I was giving something back for not being there for my mum.

“I treat all of the services users I care for with the respect that I would of shown to my mum if I could of been there.

“I love my job, it’s so rewarding and the satisfaction I get from making someone’s day is just fantastic.

“So if you’re thinking about caring and have a good heart then I would say go for it, you won’t regret it – I didn’t.”
