UKHSA Cold Weather Preparedness Programme Webinar for winter 2024/25 – 26th September 2024

I would like to invite you to the UK Health Security Agency UKHSA Cold Weather Preparedness Programme Webinar for winter 2024/25, taking place online on Thursday 26 September, from 10:00 to 12:30.
This pre-recording and live Q&A webinar will:  
  • update stakeholders on changes of the Adverse Weather and Health Plan (AWHP) and signpost users to new material
  • provide an update of the latest revised Cold Health Guidance and Cold Health Alert system as part of the AWHP
  • discuss the latest weather forecast for winter 2024/2025
  • share reflections on winter 2023/2024, including observed public health impacts of cold weather and extreme cold
  • explain how the Weather Health Alerting System and the National Severe Weather Warning Service work
  • bring useful presentations to the audience on lessons identified and preparedness of the social care services and community and voluntary services
  • discuss the role of local and national authorities in the implementation of the AWHP for protecting health during periods of cold weather (e.g. low temperatures and snow, and extreme cold).
 
The webinar will be hosted online via Microsoft Teams Live Events. Joining details will be sent after you complete your registration. The webinar will also be recorded, and available to participants afterwards.

This webinar is aimed at public health professionals and those working in emergency planning and response roles or working with patients and the public at the NHS, national and local government, or voluntary and community sector, as there is an ongoing need to ensure that all staff working with patients and clients are trained both to understand the public health impact of adverse weather events and know how to prepare and respond to adverse weather incidents.

RESTORE2 Mini Deteriorating Patient Training Offer

Please find below FINAL dates for the RESTORE2Mini Deteriorating Patient offer.
These sessions will again be taking place at Health Place in Brigg DN20 8GS on the following dates and times:
  • Tuesday 1st October 10:00 -13:30
  • Tuesday 8th October 10:00 -13:30
  • Tuesday 15th October 13:00 – 16:30
  • Tuesday 22nd October 09:30 – 13:00
We have capacity for around 18 staff to attend each session. If you wish to take up this training offer, please could you forward names of the staff you wish to attend to:  hnyicb-nl.nlipc@nhs.net
Please could I ask that if you nominate staff, that you do commit to ensuring they attend and on time for the commencement of the session, as I am sure you can understand, we have limited capacity and non-attendance prevents another individual from taking up the training offer.

Safeguarding Adults Board Communication

SPACES available – Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) reflective learning session
  • Tuesday 10th September 2024, 9:30am-11am, The Baths Hall
The session will be based on a local case study about an adult with care and support needs, living in a residential care setting whilst subject to DoLS. This learning opportunity will be interactive, requiring attendees to engage in reflective discussions and exercise their professional curiosity.

Workshop – Disclosure & Barring Service Workshop – DBS Barring Functions and the Legal Duty to Refer
Free Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) workshop, the Barring and Legal Duty to Refer session will provide insight and guidance into the DBS Barring functions and when an organisation must by law refer a staff member or volunteer to DBS following safeguarding concerns. The workshop will take place on 24 October 2024, 1pm to 3pm on MS Teams.
Key items that will be covered include:
  • how DBS and Local authorities can work together to safeguard vulnerable groups
  • what ‘Regulated Activity’ is
  • when a DBS barring referral should be made, including when the legal duty is met
  • the three different referral routes
  • how to make a good quality referral
  • the consequences of not making appropriate barring referrals
  • the consequences of being included on one or both Barred Lists
The workshop is suitable for those within HR, Safeguarding, compliance, recruitment teams and those with safeguarding responsibilities.
Anti-Slavery Day resources
Colleagues across the region have shared a number of resources with us in preparation for anti-slavery day on 18 October 2024. Two documents are attached for your information.

My Adult Still My Child – resource
My Adult – Still My Child: A guide for parents/carers of adults (16+) who may not be able to make decisions is co-produced and inspired by those who have experienced decision making within health and welfare settings and felt unprepared or challenged without such guidance. My Adult- Still My Child is a website aimed at those new to making Best Interest Decisions and especially those caring for a young person in transition to adult services.

Webinar – Improving outcomes for people with a learning disability and autism living with Epilepsy
