Ending violence against women and girls starts when we #ChangeTheStory – A Day of Memory 6th December 2023

Today marks the anniversary of the murder of 14 women at a university in Montreal, Canada. This tragedy led to the start of the White Ribbon movement. A small group of men got together and looked for a way for men to oppose violence against women. They decided to encourage men to actively show their opposition by wearing a white ribbon.  Since then, the White Ribbon movement has developed internationally and is active in over 60 countries. Today, we remember all those who have been affected by men’s violence.

In 2022, the WRUK worked with Dr Stephen Burrell, leading researcher on masculinity in the UK, to identify some traits men can nurture to transform harmful gender norms that lead to violence against women. Out of the 70+ traits, 11 were commonly selected by the participating men…
